Didier Uwayo

Vienna based singer Didier Uwayo has been on a remarkable journey which has taken him from his birthplace in the war ravaged African state of Rwanda to Austria via Kenya and Belgium. In 1991, aged sixteen, he returned to Rwanda and formed his first group 'Decc' alongside Corneille (who was later to achieve considerable success in France and Canada) and they made their first studio recordings.

Only three years later, Didier was forced to flee Rwanda as a result of the war and he eventually ended up in Austria where he became a member of 'Rhime Squad' and the accapella group 'Big Smile'. In 2004 he formed his own group '1920-7' who performed a number of gigs throughout Austria. Having featured on the soundtrack to the movie 'Kuess Mich Prinzessin', Didier went on to perform at the famous 'Gospel Meets Vienna' live concerts and has also performed with the likes of Rodney Hunter and Cloud Tissa.

Didier's sound is built to complement his amazing voice. Deeply soulful and silky smooth, Didier's vocals simply soar and his musical accompaniment is influenced as much by his African roots as it is by the world of American R&B. His forthcoming 'Personality' LP brings a totally new flavour, with real songs rather than studio trickery at the forefront. The first single from the album 'Don't Worry' has been mixed by Andy Bradfield who has worked with the likes of U2, The Spice Girls, Alanis Morisette and James Morrison.
